Ganesh Restaurant, Karol Bagh, New Delhi
Ganesh Restaurant is located within the busy market place of Karol Bagh. It is crowded most of the times and is famous for its fried non vegetarian items at nominal prices. Watching if for over a year now from inside the car during our numerous shopping trips, this time we decided to take in the plunge.
Location of Ganesh Restaurant
The restaurant is located at the busy cross section of Arya Samaj Road and Gurudwara Road. This is a popular restaurant with the locals and you will find no problem locating it. It is correctly marked on Google Maps.
About the restaurant
The restaurant is a simple road side eatery with a simple menu. The problem is reaching there. Karol Bagh is a crowded shopping and business destination. It is filled to the brim with shoppers, two wheeler, four wheeler and everything that can move. There are no immediate plans for decongestion. The authorities actually cannot prepare plans for such a locality. The automobile market ensures that there is a steady stream of vehicle visiting this locality, just to do something fancy in their cars and bikes. Whatever available space is also taken over by shop doing business in resale of cars and bikes. So in the middle of all this if you decide to have a bite of the legendary Ganesh Restaurant on week ends, you will not get a parking space for your four wheeler. Reaching there by Delhi Metro is a viable option and then catch the auto rickshaw.
The restaurant is a corner shop and it has seating on either sides, one of which is air conditioned. The main shop is just the cooking area and it is one busy place. There is a tandoor in action, a huge frying pan, someone cutting and chopping. All a nice frenzy. You have a choice to eat your meal in a car or in the seating area.
About the food
The food in this restaurant traces its origins when the population explosion had not yet engulfed Delhi. Fried chicken and Fried fish is very popular among the locals in Delhi. With booming business and lots of shoppers reaching in their own cars or the metro railway, we are going to see consistency issues. Baring them, the food at Ganesh Restaurant is exceptionally good. The fried items are preferred, but grilled ones are equally good. The right crispiness and smoky flavor. Chicken tikka is served with chutney and onions. With a slice of lemon on your plate, you have reached food heaven.
Other items on the menu are meal curries and various breads which are standard as any other restaurant. The taste for these items might not be exceptional, but prices are very very reasonable. The fast food culture mall style is already established itself in Delhi. So many folks will find this place not adhering to acceptable standards of hygiene. But despite that, this place makes an effort to keep the surroundings neat and clean.
Service is fast and well managed even during peak crowd times. Try this place only if you like the street food style places in and around Delhi with prices that dont cost a bomb.
