A legendary outlet with an equally legendary taste.

All Haldiram outlets. For the best combo of taste and ambience.

Gole Hatti at Chandni Chowk has neither ambience, spices mix or the legendary name tag. But https://thetimelock.in has voted Gole Hatti as the place which serves the best chole bhature in town.

Location of Gole Hatti

Those who shop or visit Chandni Chowk regularly are familiar with this restaurant. As you walk on the street and ask anyone, what is famous about Gole Hatti, pat comes the reply Palak chole chawal. Which translates to a plate full of rice, spicy chick peas and spinach.

The restaurant is located on the junction of Church Mission road and Swami Vivekanand Marg. The semi circular shape of the restaurant has given it the peculiar name ‘Gole’ which translates to round.

About the restaurant

Those familiar with eating in a vintage atmosphere will be perfectly at home in this restaurant. Basic wooden tables and chairs in a cramped seating, no air conditioning and peeling paint off walls. The rate list is scrawled on a metal board. I had visited this place about 15 years back and nothing has changed here. No parking in front of the restaurant. Remember, this is Chandni Chowk.

About the food

Menu is pretty simple. It is split into meal, sweets and snacks. Two basic items for a meal, chole bhature and palak chole chawal. For sweets it is rasgulla and rasmalai and for snacks it is samosa and aloo tikki.

Bhature unlike any other place you find is sans any paneer fillings in it. There is not a single drop of oil dripping from it or coming out even if you squeeze them. Now for most Delhites, the size of the bhatura will be disappointing since they are used to gigantic sizes. But you can do no work after consuming a jumbo sized bhatura. But with these two miniature bhature, served at Gole Hatti you feel light. You can ofcourse order for more if you want. Absolutely soft and light.

Same goes for Chole. Purists again will scoff at the lack of spices in the chole. Delhi is again used to bombard a dish with crazy spice mix. That does not mean that the chole at Gole Hatti is bland. Just a slight hint of spices makes it light and tasty.

Chawal Chole Palak

Chawal with Chole and Palak is their signature dish. I do not know of any other place which offers such a combo in Delhi. This is a master stroke, a quarter plate of rice with chole and palak loaded with lots of shredded onion. All this for a princely amount of 60 Rupees. You have a full and satisfying food experience.

The best way to reach this place is by the Delhi Metro and get down at Chandni Chowk. There after it is a ten minute walk to Church Mission Road. This place cannot be missed easily. Service is fast even during peak rush hours. You might have to wait for a seat some times. Check the closing time as this restaurant closes early.
