Kuremal Mahavir Prasad Kulfi Wale
The Kuremal Family has been serving delicious kulfi to the people of Delhi for the last 100 years! Today we will have a look at the lesser known and lesser rated of one of the two of the shops which have split from the original founder. Kuremal Mahavir Prasad Kulfi Wale is located on a narrow lane marked on Google Map as Gali Kunday Walan. It is one of the narrow lane on Sitaram Bazar Road which is one of the four roads which fans away from the central location of Chawri Bazar Metro Station.
The place is wrongly marked on Google Maps and also wrongly shown on Zomato. So be careful of how you reach it. There are two kulfi shops in the same lane. First you will hit Kuremal Mohan Lal Kulfi Wale and then Kuremal Mahavir Prasad Kulfi Wale.
How to reach Kuremal Mahavir Prasad Kulfi Wale
Best option is still the Delhi Metro and then a walk. You can reach there in a car or best a two wheeler, but the journey is not for the faint hearted. After you get down at Chawri Bazar Metro Station, start walking on the Sitaram Bazar Road and take the first lane on your right. Note, its a very narrow lane and you can miss it easily. And once again there are two shops of the same family but different ideologies!
What to eat there
Well almost anything is good. There is kulfi and there is stuff kulfi. There is also the Julpers or the ice lollies. Kulfis are frozen in a cone. It is removed in pieces and served in a cup. No spoon here but a piece of bamboo stick to do the trick. Flavors are plenty and all are good. We tried vanilla, pista and pan.
Stuffed Mango Kulfi, the ultimate Kulfi delicacy
This kulfi is probable not available anywhere else than this place and its other shop. Stuffed kulfi is kulfi stuffed in a fruit. Options are Orange, Apples, etc but the best is Mango (and costliest too). Carefully selected Alphonso Mango, the king of fruit, the seed or stone is removed leaving the rest of the fruit intact and in the cavity is poured kulfi in the molten form and then frozen. To serve it, one has to peel off the skin and then cut in pieces. What you get is a slice of fruit and kulfi perfectly fused together. Great texture and flavor.
Peeling off the skin of the stuffed mango kulfi.
Just one bite of the kulfi and one would thank the owners of Kuremal Mahavir Prasad Kulfi Wale to doing such good service to us by serving us some tasty treats.
Also please note, the streets are not that good to walk on, there is dirt and grime all around and the local traffic, two wheelers, auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are out to get you. There is a new menace in the form of e rickshaws which run silent and hence provide no warning. You simply need to forget everything and focus the task at hand, that is enjoying some great kulfi.
