Waste to Wonder Theme Park – What an idea Sirji

Its been not even one year since the inauguration of Waste to Wonder Theme Park and it has arguably become the most visited place in Delhi! The idea to create something artistically beautiful with waste is not new. But the efforts put in here and results are simply unbelievable.

Location of Waste to Wonder Theme Park

Nearest metro station is Hazrat Nizamuddin on the Pink Line. In case you want to drive there, parking is a big big hassle. So is the traffic, specially in the evening when the park exhibits are lit up.

About the park

The idea might have come from the Seven Wonders Park at Kota, Rajasthan. Around 150 tons of scrap and industrial waste was used to build the park in a record time of six months. The park was build by South Delhi Municipal Corporation at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore by artists and welders. Metal sheets, pipes, motorcycle chains, rims, typewriter parts, benches, chains, industrial parts, truck parts, engines parts, whatever you find in waste and landfills.

The park generates it own electricity with the help of solar panels. The surplus is given to the power grid. There is an entry fee and during peak hours, you will need to wait in the queue for ten to fifteen minutes at least. During evening and weekends, the park is super crowded. Most of the basic amenities like drinking water and toilets are provided. The park remains open till 11 pm!

A Photographer’s delight

Hats off to the effort of the artists. Attention to minute details is phenomenal. All the replicas of the seven wonders of the world are to scale. By twilight, the monuments are lit up with soft and warm lights. And that’s when the true beauty of this place is revealed. In fact if you are intending to photograph this place, pick up evening time only.
